The co-ed, inclusive youth wheelchair basketball team – The Rochester Rockets – have officially launched their first summer season.
The Rochester Rockets Get Started
The first practice for the Rochester Rockets, a youth wheelchair basketball team, was on Sunday.
Kids with or without a disability can join the team and learn how to play.
Organizers say welcoming all players will help the team thrive.
“One of the biggest things we are trying to do is give them the opportunity to play not just disabled kids, but able-bodied kids,” said Xavier Major. “We are trying to make it as inclusive as possible.”
The non-profit Endless Highway donated six specially made wheelchairs to the team.
On Sunday, they got to try them out while taking part in basketball drills on the court.
This will be the team’s first season.
